Barbra Streisand and hubby James Brolin, the producing team of Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, and the Latino organization Bienestar were honored by HRC at their annual L.A. dinner March 6 at the Century City Plaza Hotel. Streisand received the Humanitarian Award ‘for her years of leadership, vision, and activism in the fight for civil liberties, including religion, race, gender equality and freedom of speech, as well as all aspects of gay rights.’ HRC’s Corporate Award went to Storyline Entertainment’s Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, Executive Producers of the Academy Award and Golden Globe winner for Best Picture of the Year, Chicago. Zadan and Meron were honored for their portrayal of GLBT characters in numerous projects including Serving In Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story, What Makes A Family (on both of which Streisand was an executive producer), and the new ABC television series, It’s All Relative. Other celebrities at the event included Liza Minnelli (who presented Zadan and Meron with their award), Carson and Kyan from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Judith Light, Tyne Daly, Carol Leifer, Marc Shaiman, Harry Hamlin and Wilson Cruz.
