The cult Stephen Sondheim/Arthur Laurents musical Anyone Can Whistle is back at Pegasus Players in a new production and newly revised version with songs not previously heard. The plot, in a nutshell (pun intended), is what happens when the inmates take over the asylum during a time of social anarchy. Anyone Can Whistle failed when first produced in Broadway in 1964, yet has won a devoted following and reportedly is Sondheim’s personal favorite. Through July 3 at Pegasus Players, who have a way with musicals and especially with Sondheim musicals. O’Rourke Theatre, Truman College, 1145 W. Wilson; (773) 878-9761; $20-$25.
