Moises Villada, 20, has been an active member of the GLBT community as a student at Roosevelt University. As third-year president of RU Proud, Roosevelt University’s LGBTQ&A group, Moises has organized events for National Coming Out Day, pride events with other universities, and has done charity work such as toy drives for the Children’s Place Association. In 2003, RU Proud was voted Roosevelt’s student organization of the year. In addition to his involvement at his university, Moises is a member of About Face Youth Theatre, and as a Youth Leadership Council member, he works alongside staff to create workshops and plays which explore issues facing the GLBT community.
In the Chicago Historical Society’s current exhibition, ‘Teen Chicago,’ Moises is the only openly gay person showcased and he represents the ”90s Decade’ as the face of its teen youth.
Moises is most proud of his relationship with his parents, as they have been supportive and accepting since his coming out. Moises continues to educate and expose his parents to the issues he faces as a gay Latino.
