Anti-gay singer Beenie Man is performing at the House of Blues in Chicago Oct. 25, and in Royal Oak Michigan on Oct. 21, as part of a large U.S. tour schedule posted on his Web site.
The singer advocates ‘executing’ all queers, and urges listeners to kill gay DJs. Top Jamaican reggae music singer Beenie Man has dueted with Janet Jackson and Missy Elliott. With this tour he is trying to break into the lucrative U.S. pop market.
Beenie Man’s hit tune Damn has the line: ‘I’m dreaming of a new Jamaica, come to execute all the gays.’ Another track is called ‘Bad Man, Chi Chi Man.’ Chi chi man is a derogatory Jamaican insult, similar to faggot and queer.
British gay rights group OutRage! is helping coordinate a worldwide ‘Stop Murder Music’ campaign. It is urging U.S. gay and human-rights groups to ‘press for cancellation of Beenie Man’s concerts on the grounds that he incites the murder of gays and lesbians, and that his performance may lead to public disorder and to homophobic hate crimes.’
‘No one would give a platform to a singer who advocated killing Black or Jewish people. A performer who brazenly glorifies and encourages the murder of lesbians and gay men should not be rewarded with concerts and financial success,’ said Peter Tatchell of OutRage!
