Two Chicago-area LBGT youth were among the 23 outstanding GLBT students who received full scholarships to colleges and universities across the United States. The multi-year scholarships are awarded each year by the Point Foundation to support academic achievement in higher education among disenfranchised LGBT youth.
This year, two youth are associated with Chicago—Rohan Barrett (one of Windy City Times’ 30 Under 30 recipients) and Jessie Gilliam. Rohan was born and raised in Jamaica and now attends the University of Illinois at Chicago, concentrating in education. Jessie was born in Chicago and raised in both Alaska and northern Virginia. Jessie is pursuing a master’s degree in public affairs and women’s studies at George Washington University. See http://www.ThePointFoundation.org
