Gay marriage activists Angela James, Cathyann Joseph, and Andy Thayer—who were three members of the quartet known as the ‘Orr Four’—showed up at court at 1340 S. Michigan on Dec. 14 to face charges of disorderly conduct for demanding marriage licenses at the office of Cook County Clerk David Orr in May. However, it turns out that the advocates had no worries; the charges against them have been dropped.
In a brief statement, Thayer told Windy City Times that the prosecution dropped its case because Gary Naham—the fourth member of the group—prevailed in his bench trial [on Nov. 5]. ‘Gary won and [the prosecutors] saw that they were not going to win [this trial], ‘ Thayer said. ‘We’re now scot free, so to speak.’
