The Rainbow Sash Movement has called upon Pope John Paul II to stop what it calls his ‘international gay bashing.’ In a press release issued by the organization, Rainbow Sash accuses the pontiff of being driven by dogma, not the Holy Scripture; the group also asserts that the GLBT community is bearing the brunt of the pope’s ‘mean-spirited attacks.’ The association called for the Pope to actually communicate with GLBT Catholics.
Rainbow Sash also mentioned being glad that Archbishop Harry J. Flynn of Minneapolis/St. Paul (Minn.) discussed the issue in a meeting with Cardinal Francis Arinze, head of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments, at the Vatican. Flynn mentioned that the GLBT issue is one that ‘must constantly be looked at in all its ramifications.’
