A new publication from the Council for Jewish Elderly’s (CJE) Center for Applied Gerontology is being used to instruct workers about the sexual diversity within the elderly population, according to the organization’s press release.
The guide, Understanding and Caring for Lesbian and Gay Older Adults: Frontline Workers Sensitivity Training System, is a 76-page manual and CD-ROM that provides caregivers with a training program to address the needs of older gays and lesbians. The manual, which is in six sessions, contains a discussion guide, handout section, and even PowerPoint slides. The manual is considered essential in some circles; experts estimate that about seven percent of older Americans (age 65 and above) are from the GLBT sector. Contact Esther Azulay at (773) 508-1006.
