Congo Square Theatre Company’s 2004-2005 Season continues with their production of Ntozake Shange’s Lavender Lizards & Lilac Landmines: Layla’s Dream.
As in the tradition of Shange’s groundbreaking choreopoem, for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbo is enuf, this new multicultural play is alternately ritualistic, fantastical, and mystical. The Chicago Tribune says ‘Layla’s Dream rings affecting, true.’
The production, directed by Goodman Resident Director and Congo Square Advisory Board member Chuck Smith, marks Congo Square’s debut at the Duncan YMCA Chernin Center for the Arts, 1001 W. Roosevelt. This show is recommended for mature audiences.
Performances of Lavender Lizards & Lilac Landmines: Layla’s Dream are Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets $25 and are currently available on line at ticketweb.com. Ticket information is available by calling the Duncan YMCA Chernin Center for the Arts at (312) 421-7800 or the Congo Square Administrative Office at (773) 296-1108.
