The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) recently released Call to Action, a document that details the critical state and national issues that the HIV/AIDS community has to face. In particular, it addresses the policy and program changes that are needed to deal with the impact of HIV/AIDS in the correctional system. To view or download Call to Action, visit www.aidschicago.org/advocacy/policy_priorities.php or call Amy LaMantia at (312) 922-2322.
In related news, AFC is urging AIDS advocates and community members to make plans to travel to Springfield April 12-13 for Caring for Our Communities: HIV/AIDS Advocacy and Lobby Days. On April 12, lobbyists will have the chance to hone their advocacy skills as well as to attend a reception with state officials. On the following day, AIDS advocates will gather in the state capitol to talk with legislators about HIV/AIDS-related issues. The deadline for scholarships is March 1 while the cut-off date for registration is April 1.
Registration is free but mandatory. For more information, go to the Web site www.aidschicago.org/events/lobby_day.php.
