Although there are those who believe that all circuit parties are dens of drug-fueled iniquity, that did not seem to be the case with this past weekend’s Fireball, which included get-togethers at the House of Blues and Union Station as well as the nightspots Crobar and Excalibur.
According to 23rd District officer Nenad Markovich, things went swimmingly. He told Windy City Times that ‘ [t] hings went very smoothly—even though we were inundated with press. The only [bad] things that happened were that one person suffered a seizure because of the strobe lights and another was arrested at Union Station [on Feb. 19] for possession of [the date-rape drug] GHB. The
man who was arrested had been taken in before and was discovered in the ‘pat-down1 area.’ (Many Web sites—including several that deal with epilepsy—contend that strobe lights may induce seizures.)
Markovich was pleased with the job the security people did at Fireball. He said that they needed to be vigilant because they wanted ‘to send a message that the Hearts Foundation will not condone what happened in prior years [as well as] in other places. It kills me to see people being dragged off the floor because of overdosing. I was very pleased; there were [several] parties and things were just fantastic.’
