If Anna Deavere Smith looks familiar, it’s because she’s a regular on The West Wing. But the award-winning author, playwright and performer also is a MacArthur Foundation ‘genius’ fellow, a tenured professor at New York University and creator of a Harvard University research institute. Her award-winning one-person theater works have addressed issues of race, community and character in America in a unique way.
