A member of the Lyric Opera’s chorus was found stabbed to death in his North Side home over the weekend, according to police spokesman Pat Camden.
Richard Lee Markley, 45, who had been associated with the opera since 1991, was found by co-workers Feb. 28 inside his apartment in the 4600 block of North Lincoln. Markley, who lived alone, was lying next to his bed and suffered several stab wounds.
There were no signs of forced entry.
Markley was a chorus member and sang with big-name stars including Renee Fleming and Catherine Malfitano.
Camden also informed Windy City Times that, despite the situational similarities to murders that rocked the gay community last year, there is no definitive connection ‘At this point, we’re treating all homicides equally,’ he said. ‘There is no link at this point.’
