The most recent meeting of area-wide Latino/a LGBT activists and community leaders was successful, according to an attendee. The meeting was held at the Mexican Fine Arts Center and Museum, 1852 W. 19th St., on May 7.

In an e-mail, Nilsa Irizarry discussed how productive the forum was. In a major development, participants decided to create a formal Latino LGBT organization in Chicago. According to Irizarry, the decision ‘will send a message to the constituents in Chicago as well as to our colleagues throughout the U.S.’ In addition, two committees (governance and task) were formed; others will be created in the near future.

The next meeting will take place June 4 at the museum. Among the topics to be discussed are possible names for the new organization and reports from the two committees. To RSVP, e-mail LatinoLGBT@aol.com or call (312) 744-0167.
