The California Supreme Court heard arguments on whether private country clubs can refuse spousal discounts to lesbians, who cannot legally marry. The Sacramento Bee reported that, during an hour of arguments, the seven justices did not show their hands on how they might rule in a case that is expected to factor into the state’s ongoing courtroom battle for same-sex marriage.
B. Birgit Koebke and Kendall French, a lesbian couple who have been together 11 years, left the California Supreme Court confident that they may soon share full membership rights at their San Diego country club— rights currently granted only to married couples, Law.com reported.
