Dave DaVinci Saves the Universe, House Theatre at the Viaduct, through July 9. The House rocks and the frat party continues in this time travel tale, a streamlined piece of storytelling in which House also finds bittersweet resonance and new emotional depth. JA
Hillbilly Antigone, Lookingglass Theatre, through July 10. This Greek tragedy moved to 1920’s Tennessee is lively, original, well done and even funny, although it wreaks havoc on the Sophocles original. A bluegrass band brilliantly replaces the Greek chorus. JA
Great Expectations, Piven Theatre, through June 26. Michael Stock’s adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic, with Joyce Piven herself as vengeful Miss Havisham, condenses to two comfortable hours what took you half a semester to read in school. MSB
The Lion King, Cadillac Palace Theatre, through Sept. 4. Visually stunning, vibrant, and alive, this collaboration between Julie Taymor, Elton John, and Tim Rice delivers what is unquetionably Disney’s finest venture into the Broadway musical. RR
