Windy City Times has learned that a man charged with the first-degree murder of a former Catholic priest more than two years ago has been found guilty of the crime by a jury.
Marcy Jensen, spokeswoman for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, informed Windy City Times that Timothy Sallis, 41, who was charged with the April 17, 2003, murder of Bradley Sterrett, was convicted by a jury June 21. Sallis now faces sentencing.
According to Jensen, Sterrett met Sallis at what was then Manhole, 3458 N. Halsted, where they agreed to have sex for money. Jensen said that a sex act was performed on the defendant in the victim’s apartment at 3200 N. Lake Shore Drive, after which Sterrett allegedly did not give Sallis the money. Sallis then beat Sterrett to death.
A May 7, 2003 Windy City Times article noted that Sallis, aka Timothy King, had confessed to the crime. At that time, police spokesperson Pat Camden commented that Sterrett died of massive bleeding from trauma to the head. Camden also said that Sallis had 49 arrests on his record, many for prostitution, in addition to assaults, batteries, and robbery.
Jensen said that Sallis’s sentencing hearing will likely take place on July 14. He could be sentenced to up to 60 years in prison.
