From the ‘Neener-Neener-Neener’ file: once in a while it feels good to gloat when bad folks just give up in their fight against gaydom. The Chicago Tribune (6’23) tells us the Baptists have thrown in the towel re their boycott of the Walt Disney Co. because of Disney’s support of gay days at its theme parks and its offer of health benefits to same-sex partners of employees. All those baby fundies can now see boys holding hands, women holding hands, mice holding hands. Egad!

The Chicago Sun-Times (6/30) is skipping part of the story in its rendition of an article of a teen-age boy countertenor who is not being allowed to audition for a soprano role in Texas’ All-State choir. Mikhael Rawls is (one hopes) a natural countertenor but historically flocks of these high-pitched guys didn’t merely take the place of women singers as is implied in the story: they were manufactured. Boy sopranos were ‘fixed’ and grew up with male lung power and, um, girly voices. They were the pop stars of their time even tho’ they were unable … you get the picture.

From The NY Times Book Review (6/19) comes And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson & Parnell. A) It’s a good story, B) It’s about gayness embodying family values, C) It’s scientific, D) It’s about two male penguins, Roy & Silo, who have become partners, try to hatch a rock, are given an extra egg which they hatch and raise—Tango, and E) It’s completely true. Just the Xmas present for all your Christian friends and relatives.

The NY Times Magazine (6’19) had an article ‘What’s the Movement to Outlaw Gay Marriage Really About?’ The answer after interviewing numerous Christian anti-gay- marriage activists is simple: ‘It’s the Gay Part.’ Don’t like gays, don’t like homosexuality, it says so right in the Bible (but I can’t tell you exactly where), it is not genetic (couldn’t be) but is ‘a disease in society.’ Full of hate (that they call love) to their core.
