Gov. Rod Blagojevich announced a fair housing program to help protect home buyers against discrimination in housing; it will also inform housing providers and community organizations working on housing issues about the state’s new anti-discrimination laws.
The Illinois Department of Human Rights will work with other state agencies to conduct a series of seminars over the next few weeks in Chicago and other cities, in partnership with Catholic Charities and the League of United Latin American Citizens, among others. The sessions will inform home buyers, tenants, landlords, property owners and community organizations about Illinois’s anti-discrimination laws. Forums will include an overview on fair housing; housing rights of persons with disabilities; and sexual harassment in housing.
