Catch-22, Steep Theatre, through Nov. 9. Military Intelligence is an oxymoron in Joseph Heller’s adaptation of his World War II novel, and Steep Theatre’s sharp-edged production renders its absurdity immediate and pertinent nearly 50 years after it was written. MSB

Orpheus Descending, American Theater Company, EXTENDED through Nov. 13. A powerhouse performance from Carmen Roman and an exceptional production make this Tennessee Williams’ tragedy this fall’s must-see theater. RR

Pride and Prejudice, Northlight Theatre (Skokie), through Nov. 13. Two more weeks to see this slightly-long but dazzling and handsome adaptation of one of the great—and slyly delightful—English Romantic novels. Gorgeous costumes, lotsa’ spirit and bling. JA

The Uneasy Chair, Writers’ Theatre (Glencoe) through Nov. 27. This Victorian comedy of manners is the stuff of Wilde, but written by contemporary American Evan Smith. Darkly funny, it boasts top shelf performances from cast and crew alike. RR
