Odd, isn’t it, how disintegrating families make for such powerful drama? Two of the greatest works of 20th Century theater, both semi-autobiographical plays written by American titans, prove the point. Eugene O’Neill’s heart-breaking Long Day’s Journey Into Night, ‘written in tears and blood’ according to his biography, continues through Nov. 20 at the North Side Cultural Center (6219 N. Sheridan Road), presented by Collage Productions; (773) 764-0353; $15. Also, the Gift Theatre (4802 N. Milwaukee) offers Tennessee Williams’ elegiac ‘The Glass Menagerie,’ directed by Sheldon Patinkin and starring Mary Ann Thebus as Amanda Wingfield, through Dec. 4; (773) 283-7071; $20-$25.
