Jill Metz, an attorney with an established record of LGBT-rights advocacy, was elected president of the Board of Directors for the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois (ACLU-IL). According to an ACLU-IL press release, the board unanimously voted for Metz. She begins her post Jan. 1, 2006.
Metz has been active in ACLU-IL for many years and has been a member of the board since 1999. She has also been a leader in organization’s Gay and Lesbian Rights Project Advisory Committee.
Colleen Connell, executive director of ACLU-IL, said in the statement that the board ‘is thrilled to have a lawyer of Jill’s experience devote her volunteer efforts to lead [the organization’s] advocacy efforts.’
