The National Gay and Lesbian Journalists Association (NGLJA) is offering The Leroy F. Aarons Scholarship Award. The award was established to honor Aarons’ memory and to continue the work he started when he founded the organization.
The $5,000 award for 2006 will be given to an LGBT student who plans on a career in journalism and who plans on furthering NGLJA’s mission of fair and accurate coverage of the LGBT community. High school and undergraduate students are eligible.
Application packages should include, among other items, a one-page resume, work samples, a transcript and three letters of recommendation. Fully completed applications must be postmarked no later than Feb. 1, 2006. The recipient will be announced on March 15.
