Light Opera Works is squeezing The Sound of Music into the holiday week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, with its usual fine attention to musical standards and a full, live orchestra. LOW artistic director Rudy Hogenmiller is staging and choreographing the familiar work, which means it won’t be just a retread nor will it be a skimpy show. You can count on a fresh look, a large cast and genuine theatrical interest. Complete with singing nuns and lederhosen, The Sound of Music runs Dec. 26-Jan. 1 (matinee) at Cahn Auditorium (Northwestern University), Evanston; (847) 869-6388; $27-$75 (except $43-$75 New Year’s Eve).
