Aren Drehobl has left the Chicago chapter of GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network). The now-former program manager cited ‘the demands of full-time school, field placement, a grad assistantship’ and the work at GLSEN as being too overwhelming.
Drehobl wrote in an e-mail of being ‘impressed, inspired and sometimes awed’ by the efforts for LGBTQA youth. Drehobl also noted the growth of gay-straight alliances in schools, with the number growing in the past couple of years from 45 to more than 65.
Windy City Times has honored Drehobl twice with its ’30 Under 30′ Award, pointing to her extensive involvement with several LGBT organizations.
