Andersonville’s gay male stripper nightclub and bar, Madrigal’s, will be closed until Feb. 5 due to a citation.
The bar, located at 5316 N. Clark, closed its doors Jan. 16 and will re-open Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. According to a press release posted on the club’s Web site Jan. 18 by owner Juan Nieves, Madrigal’s closed because the Illinois Liquor Commission ruled that it would be shut down for 21 days due to an infraction for serving a minor.
‘Sometime last year one of our bartenders served a beer to an undercover police agent,’ Nieves wrote. He added that despite the bar’s policy to check IDs and the dismissal of the bartender who served a minor, the commission ruled that Madrigal’s must temporarily close its doors.
Nieves wrote that, although his lawyers suggested he fight the closing, he decided to save some attorneys’ fees by putting a close to the issue. His lawyers were able to arrange for the closure to coincide with Nieves’ vacation plans.
