Candi Stratton, who is originally from Chicago and who started her career at LaCage on Oak St in the early ’80s won the title of Miss Gay Universe 2006 over 24 other contestants from around the world. The event was held Feb. 17 in Sydney, Australia, according to the Sydney Star Observer.

Stratton is a post-op transsexual who represented the United States. However, according to an e-mail, she currently lives in the Australian city of Melbourne, where she is happily married.

Judges also handed out other titles, including Miss Congeniality, Best in National Costume and Darling of the Crowd.
