More than 100 community organizations and religious groups from the metropolitan area and adjacent states will converge in Chicago on March 18 to mark the third anniversary of the war in Iraq, according to a press release from ChicagoActions.org. The primary events will be neighborhood feeder marches, a rally at Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph, at 3 p.m. and a ‘Festival of Rights’ march down Michigan Avenue that will kick off at 7 p.m.
The actions are being organized by a coalition of local peace activists and groups organizing around two central demands: an immediate end to the U.S. war and occupation in Iraq as well as a call to bring the troops home now.
Among the many organizations participating are the American Muslim Alliance (Midwest Region), Billionaires for Bush, the Gay Liberation Network, Orgullo en Accion, South Siders for Peace and SANGAT.
