The Army has recommended that seven 82nd Airborne Division paratroopers be discharged following allegations they engaged in sex acts shown on a gay porn Web site, according to the Associated Press. Three soldiers face courts-martial on charges of sodomy, pandering and engaging in sex acts for money; the others received nonjudicial punishments. An arraignment was scheduled for March 7.
Actress and AIDS activist Dame Elizabeth Taylor rang in her 74th birthday by donating a mobile medical unit to the New Orleans AIDS Task Force, according to an Associated Press item. In a statement, Taylor stated that ‘ [t] here is no equality with HIV/AIDS. It strikes wherever it feels like it. And I hope the availability of my mobile unit will help make lives easier where it is already so hard.’
LPI Media, Inc., announced that corporate editorial director Judy Wieder will be leaving the company on March 22. Wieder joined The Advocate as its arts and entertainment editor in 1993 and became the magazine’s first woman editor-in-chief in 1996.
