‘Gays and Gospel,’ the second event presented by the Chicago History Museum’s Out at CHM program, will focus on how gay men have transcended church decorum by revealing and even celebrating their identities through music and song.
The featured speakers will be E. Patrick Johnson, a performance studies professor at Northwestern University and author of the prize-winning book Appropriating Blackness: Performance and the Politics of Authenticity, and Kent R. Brooks, director of music ministries for the First Calvary Baptist Church in Durham, N.C.
