The magnificent Museum of Contemporary Art was host to Lambda Legal’s 2006 Bon Foster Civil Rights Celebration on April 27. This year’s theme was ‘Do the Right Thing.’
According to Michael Adams, director of education and public affairs, Lambda Legal had many victories in both the courtroom and public arena to celebrate. ‘We’re at such a crucial time in our work,’ he said, adding that in recent years, Lambda Legal has made ‘unprecedented progress’ in victories both large and small.
Adams stressed that the next few years are ‘critically important’ regarding LGBT first-class citizenship. ‘We must continue to win day after day in the courts across the country, but we must also win in the courts of public opinion,’ he said.
This year’s honored guests were Ohio couple Dr. Yvonne Keller and Susan Gray, whose hands were quite full with their two little ones at the evening’s event. Conservative legislator Thomas Brinkman filed suit against Miami University in hopes of terminating its domestic partner healthcare coverage. Lambda Legal filed suit against the Ohio university on behalf of Keller and Gray and other LGBT couples to help fight Brinkman’s attack on LGBT people.
