In order to compromise with residents, Crystal Lake’s city council approved two hours of extra wake time for speedboaters in July.

The additional wake hours make up for wake hours lost in order to accommodate for a July 16 Gay Games regatta.

The city of Lakewood also needs to approve the wake times. However, this does not impact the Gay Games’ rowing competition.

Gay Games overcame the final hurdle for usage of Crystal Lake’s rowing facilities on April 11, when the Village of Lakewood voted 3-1 in favor of holding the event. Prior to the vote, Gay Games’ request to use the lake caused quite a controversy in the far Northwestern suburb.
