David Cavanaugh was one of the principal organizers of the eighth Reaching Out MBA Conference held in Chicago during the fall of 2005. This annual gathering of LGBT graduate business-school students and professionals from around the world seeks to develop leaders in the business world and to promote the acceptance and visibility of LGBT businesspeople. With three days of events, over 600 attendees and 40 companies recruiting for full-time positions and summer internships, the Chicago Reaching Out conference surpassed the size and scope of all previous conferences.

After the conference, David was elected to serve as a board member of the Reaching Out MBA, Inc., the nonprofit umbrella organization of the conference.

David will soon be awarded his master’s from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He was the co-president of Kellogg’s Gay and Lesbian Management Association (GLMA), which has a very active and visible presence on campus through its many initiatives, including hosting ‘Coming Out for Your MBA,’ a series of informational sessions held in various cities for prospective LGBT Kellogg students.

New developments under David’s stewardship include a multicultural marketing seminar and a series of informal lunches and dinners for GLMA members. In his ‘nonexistent free time,’ he enjoys triathlons, international traveling, cooking and dining.

DID YOU KNOW? As a little kid, David wanted to be a construction worker when he grew up.
