Growing up, Melanie Stinson’s life could have been set to the tune of the U2 song ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.’ She constantly looked for some type of challenge and something that would give her the proper voice. At 19, she found what she needed in About Face Youth Theatre, which she found to be empowering and full of truth.
Melanie, 22, graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago this past May with a degree in English writing. (She worked as a peer educator of the Campus Advocacy Network while attending school there.) Moreover, for the past two years, she has been excited to work on The Home Project—a magnifying glass looking in on queer youth homelessness in Chicago. This play tells true stories about home and homelessness. In addition, Melanie has been involved with programs that create awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence,
DID YOU KNOW? When she was 16, Melanie was the goalie on her high-school soccer team.
