On July 15, the day of the Gay Games’ opening ceremonies, there will be a special free Chicago ‘torch’ run at the historical Rainbow Beach, 3111 E. 77th St.
The International Rainbow Memorial Run is a series of events bringing the Rainbow Flag as a symbolic ‘torch’ from San Francisco to Gay Games VII in Chicago. These events include memorial runs with the Rainbow Flag and rallies focused on remembrance, AIDS and breast cancer prevention, as well as the promotion of Gay Games VII Sports and Cultural Festival being held in Chicago July 15-22.
Locally, the run will take place at Rainbow Beach on at 7 a.m. Participating runners and walkers will gather at 77th and South Shore Drive in the Rainbow Beach parking lot. The run will circle within the walk paths and culminate along the lake bike paths in a 3-mile run and 1.5-mile walk.
