Veronica Ledoux’s queer activism began in the late 1990s at the small Catholic college she attended in Pennsylvania, when she was the only student member of the school’s first diversity task force and created a gay-straight alliance. After graduating in 1999, grad school brought her to Chicago, where she serendipitously moved into the same neighborhood as Gerber/Hart Library; she has been volunteering with them ever since her first visit, functioning as shift supervisor, book sale manager, and volunteer coordinator and a member of the board of directors. She’s also received the library’s volunteer of the year award.
Veronica is a neurobiology doctoral student at Northwestern University, where she studies how hormones influence synaptic connections in the brain. Veronica is committed to queer visibility in science and volunteers as a mentor with the Chicago Public Schools science fairs.
Veronica is also the Webgoddess for Chicago’s lesbian website, Dykediva.com. When not uploading new content to the site, she coordinates DivaDating and other community events.
DID YOU KNOW? Her favorite diversions include gardening, cycling, and reading P. G. Wodehouse novels and collecting 78 rpm records.
