Chicago House and Social Service Agency’s 12th annual Birdhouse Art Auction and cocktail party, held on June 22 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, was a rousing success, attracting approximately 320 guests and raising a record $38,000.
More than 60 artists, designers and architects created birdhouses and bird-related artwork for the auction, with artist Jason Messinger’s ceramic tile mural garnering the highest bid for the second consecutive year. Other popular pieces included Todd Haley’s eight-foot-tall steel structure and the Waterworks team project—a 50-pound ‘Birdhouse Outhouse’ constructed of Waterworks signature ceramic and stone tiles.
Raffle prizes included a city street banner for the upcoming 2006 Gay Games with the name of the winner, Phil Hannema, on the front.
