Protests were held worldwide on Aug. 24, in response to a call for global action from South Africa’s Treatment Access Campaign. In Chicago, medical students and members of local AIDS organizations were to deliver a 5-foot ‘pink slip’ to the South African Consolate on Michigan Avenue, calling for the dismissal of South African Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang for failing to help prevent and treat HIV/AIDS. The consulate closed early, most likely in response to successful protests across the U.S., Canada and in South Africa. Photos by Amy Wooten
