Thanks to a statewide grant and the generosity of a University student group, the Western Illinois University Libraries, in MaComb, now houses the largest named GLBT film collection in the state, according to a press release. However, what sets this collection apart is that the films are available to college students and faculty from across the state.
The Malpass Library received a $6,000 CARLI (Consortium of Academic Libraries in Illinois) grant to start the collection, which now consists of more than 200 films. Unity, Western Illinois’s GLBTA organization, has also donated dollars to add to the collection, and will contribute funding and films each year.
Films that are donated to the collection or purchased from monetary gifts will feature a nameplate recognizing the donor (s).
The complete list will soon be a part of the online University Catalog at www.wiu.edu/library/, under ‘Gay and Lesbian and Film.’ For more information, call 309-298-2159.
