Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP)—one of the world’s major presenters of Chicago, national and international tap and percussive dance—showcases international tap repertory companies during ‘Global Rhythms 2.’ The event begins Nov. 17-19 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago, and continues Nov. 24–25 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park.
‘Global Rhythms 2’ kicks off with ‘Jubalee! España,’ a benefit performance on opening night, Nov. 17. The performance opens with the world premiere of Charlie’s Angels: A Tribute To Charlie Parker, performed by three contemporary tap divas: Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, Ayodele Casel and Chloe Arnold. The evening continues with Tapeplas, a contemporary percussive dance company from Barcelona, Spain. In addition, Ellen Hunt, a previous chairman of CHRP’s board of directors, will receive CHRP’s annual JUBA! Award for Outstanding Service to the Field. Tapeplas will also be featured Nov. 18-19 as well as Jason Samuels Smith and Pandit Chitresh Das in an excerpt from India Jazz Suites.
Nov. 24-25 marks the return of the Israeli troupe Sheketak, complete with the North American premiere of a new show that combines dance, body percussion, tap, hip-hop and live music, and more.
