Paula Poundstone—rapid-fire comedy intact—will appear at Centre East Theatre at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, 9501 Skokie Blvd., Skokie, on Feb. 17 at 8 p.m.

In 1992, Poundstone was the first woman to win a Cable ACE Award for Best Stand-Up Comedy Special for her HBO special Cats, Cops and Stuff and also won an American Comedy Award for funniest comedienne. In 1996 she debuted her second HBO stand-up special, Paula Poundstone Goes to Harvard, the only time the elite university has allowed their name to be used in the title of a TV show.

She has made regular appearances on Late Night with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion. An accomplished author, her newest book—There’s Nothing In This Book That I Meant To Say—was released Nov. 7, 2006.
