A memorial for Peg Grey, the first female co-president of the Federation of Gay Games and co-chair of Team Chicago, will be held April 1 at 3 p.m. at Unity In Chicago, 1925 W. Thome. Grey, one of the most important and pioneering activists in Chicago’s GLBT community, died Feb. 24 of complications from cancer at the age of 61.

It will be a non-traditional service featuring Peg’s favorite spiritual ceremony, which she first experienced in Peru. There will also be music, a video of Grey, a candle-lighting ceremony and an open mic session with a reception that will include dancing.

Athletes are invited to wear their team jerseys. Grey’s good friend and spiritual leader, Jennie Landfield, will be presiding over the ceremony.

In addition, Paul Oostenbrug has set up a page on the Team Chicago Web site where people can post their memories of Grey. The link is www.nabble.com/Remembering-Peg-Grey-tf3309363.html.
