Patricia Logue, formerly the director of constitutional litigation at Lambda Legal’s Midwest office, was sworn in as an Associate Judge for the Cook County Circuit Court on April 11. She was one of the lead attorneys in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court Lawrence v. Texas case, which eradicated the country’s remaining sodomy laws.
Logue and Stuart Katz were the only openly gay judges out of 31 newly-selected individuals. Judges chose from a list of 62 finalists.
Later that day, in honor of Cook County’s 14 gay and lesbian judges, the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago (LAGBAC) hosted a spring cocktail reception on April 11 at Petterino’s restaurant, 50 W. Randolph. Among the judges honored were three that were newly sworn in: Logue, Katz and Jim Snyder (who was sworn in as Circuit Judge of Cook County, Tenth Subcircuit, on March 23). Others present at the event included Colleen Sheehan, Sebastian Patti, Cheryl Cesario, Tom Chiola, Mary Colleen Roberts and Sherry Pethers.
