On April 27, members of the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) and the Student Global AIDS Campaign (SGAC) joined with Thai AIDS activists in demonstrations around Chicago, as a small group of activists attended an Abbott Laboratories shareholders meeting, an AMSA press release stated. In addition, hundreds of students, doctors and community leaders rallied at the Tribune Building, 435 N. Michigan. They held a die-in that represented the thousands of lives they feel will be lost as a result of Abbott’s decision to withdraw the AIDS drug Kaletra and six other drugs from Thailand. Related events took place on April 26-27 in New York City; Worcester, Mass.; Washington, D.C.; and Austin, Texas.
