The Joel Hall Dancers (JHD) will be involved in three sets of performances on May 12 at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport.
At 1 p.m., JHD 1511, the troupe’s youth ensemble, and JHD II, the training company for the Joel Hall Dancers, will participate in a concert featuring the work of JHD 1511 Artistic Director Katy Kempen; JHD II Artistic Director Duwane Pendarvis; and choreographers Joel Hall, Courtney Hischke and Kirby Reed.
Following that concert at 4 p.m. will be ‘Journey,’ a concert featuring the Joel Hall Dancers, the Barefoot Hawaiian Inc. and Filipiniana Dancers. The audience will take a journey to Africa, the Philippines and Hawaii—and then return home—thanks to the choreography of Joel Hall and Ron DeJesus.
Lastly, at 8 p.m. will be a performance workshop concert involving the students of JHD resident workshop choreographers Duwane Pendarvis, Kirby Reed, Nancy Teinowitz and Vanessa Truvillion.
