The local LGBT Catholic organization Dignity/Chicago celebrated 35 years of ministry to the LGBT community with an anniversary Mass and reception on May 19 at the new Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted. Dignity/Chicago’s spiritual director, Mark Vician, gave the homily. Also, the organization’s annual John Michie Award was presented during the evening’s program.

Dignity/Chicago formed in January 1972, and was the fourth Dignity chapter in the nation. The formation happened approximately one year after Mary Houlihan began holding Mass in various residences and starting a spiritual organization for the gay and lesbian community. It is currently the third-longest serving branch, and has over 200 members in seven states. Photos by Steve Starr, STARRGAZERS PHOTOGRAPHY, www.SteveStarrStudios.com.
