The annual Ride For AIDS Chicago is expected to double its participants this summer, organizers report.
The two-day, 180-mile bicycle ride, which will take place June 2-3, will feature about 200 riders, said Rhett Lindsay, Development Associate/Special Events Coordinator for Test Positive Aware Network (TPAN)—one of two organizations (along with Better Existence with HIV) that will benefit from the endurance ride.
The ride encompasses about 12 hours per day, Lindsay said, and, hopefully, the riders will have practiced quite a bit. ‘We don’t suggest people just hop on a bicycle that [June] morning and start to ride,’ he said.
The 2007 riders range in age from 18 to 60. About 60 percent of the riders will be male and about 40 or 50 percent of the riders are LGBT.
The ride kicks off from the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston.
