All the king’s doctors and men couldn’t put Cole Porter’s legs together again after his notorious 1937 horseback accident. So in 1948, after two dozen operations and while living in constant pain, he wrote his most brilliant score ever, Kiss Me Kate, partly based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.Porter penned I Hate Men, but don’t believe it for a second. This Light Opera Works production sports a 30-person cast and a 28-piece orchestra to render Porter’s cornucopia of songs, among them Another Op’nin’, Another Show; Brush Up Your Shakespeare; Wunderbar; and So in Love. Rudy Hogenmiller directs and choreographs. Kiss Me Kate runs through June 10 only; Cahn Auditorium (Evanston, Emerson at Sheridan Road); 847-869-6300; $28-$80.
