Karen L. Helfrich, nee Smith, passed away on May 21 in Evanston. She was 63.

Helfrich was director of foundation relations for Trilogy, an Evanston-based behavioral healthcare company. She worked in the mental health field since 1976 and facilitated 7720 Inc.’s merger with Trilogy in 1998, which resulted in expanded residential options for Trilogy clients. Helfrich raised thousands of dollars to support Trilogy’s mission.

Helfrich is survived by her brother, David Smith and his wife Renie as well as the three Smith children, their spouses and four children. Also surviving are numerous friends from all over the country.

A memorial service will be held June 15 at 4 p.m. at The Women’s Club of Evanston, 1702 Chicago, Evanston. The interment is private.
