One of the two 16-year-old Crystal Lake teen girls accused of distributing anti-gay flyers at their high school received a plea deal on June 20.
The felony hate crime charge against the girl was dropped by McHenry County prosecutors after she pled guilty to lesser charges (misdemeanor disorderly conduct and resisting arrest). State’s Attorney Louis Bianchi told the Chicago Tribune that although he felt the hate crime charge was justified, he felt the plea was fair.
She was arrested, along with another teen, in May for distributing fliers that featured two males kissing, one of which was a fellow student and ex-friend, as well as inflammatory, anti-gay language.
She will be monitored and will remain in home detention until her sentencing.
